Femme Fatale!!!

So... I got last a last minute ticket to a really great concert. I saw Franz Ferdinand and I saw Death Cab for Cutie.

Ok, so I'm going to admit - I'm not that cool. Since China I'm not that up on bands. I know random songs - like even some Canto pop and mandarin pop songs. And I even know what's cool in country music from my little stint in Southern Alberta. I even went to a Corb Lund concert and two stepped very badly with an Australian ski hill worker who also two stepped very badly. We both didn't like country, but he had cowboy boots and I had a cowboy shirt on.

However, even though I love music, I've been moving around far too much to have surrounded myself with people like me. So since I'm never with people like me, not too much of my music has been my type of music. But I still enjoy it!!! (and I enjoy people who are not like me)

But after this concert I think I've found two more bands that will actually get on my list. Oh - I forgot, Fiest actually made it on my list around last November. Now that band is quality. And I found her just randomly listening to CBC radio.

Anyhoo, I discovered something about myself while at this concert. Sometimes I found it rather hard to enjoy the music because we were near the front and I was getting really aggressive. I really wanted to hurt people.

People kept shoving back and forth and it made want to hurt them (but in a crowd that large and squishy - who do you hurt?) And idiots kept trying to get to the front and shove us back. I did all I could in my power to stick my elbows out and make sure they didn't get to the front, and I'll admit, I ground some elbows purposely into backs as well.

Worst of all, there were the 3 or 4 oversized males with the IQ of 20 who were seriously throwing people around on purpose and violently moshing. I kept being near their circle of death and it made me nervous. I'm pretty small, but there were tiny little high school girls there and it wouldn't have taken much for one of those @#$#% holes to seriously hurt someone.

A fight almost broke out because of these retards and some chick just jumped in there clocked one of the idiots right in the eye and he got a big shiner.

I will guiltily admit I'm so happy she did. The whole evening I was secretly entertaining thoughts of doing the same.

By the sounds of this blog you would think that I went to a slip knot concert or something, but no - it was a Cold Play type band and a Art Rock type band.

Another funny thing is that everyone is shoving and pushing and jumping and sweating like mad. 10 minutes into the concert you just resort to the fact that you are now covered in the sweat of countless strangers and countless others have inadvertedly touched your bum and you have now also touched the bums of countless strangers.

I think Walt Whitman would have liked mosh pits and I think he probably would have added another verse to "Leaves of Grass" Ah yes... I Sing the Body Electric!!!!

  • Many of my english friends would be greenw ith envy taht you saw Franz Ferdinand, they are HUGE back home, personally I am not that bothered as some of their lyrics (to me) are questionable (from a Christian perspective). We miss you.

  • Yeah, Take Me Out was THE soundtrack to my third year at uni - that and 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love' by The Darkness. Then last year it was all Maroon 5 and Kaiser Chiefs. It was time to leave the country again.
