Speaking in church

So I have to speak in front of the church for a little informal interview. And I havn't prepared. And the questions are monumental. And I hate doing "Christianese"! But how to speak in front of a church and convince them that I'm going to be a great youth pastor with out using the lingo.

So here we go...

What are the highlights of your life journey?

Being born, furloughs, moving to Canada, university, China, back to Canada. Basically I guess I'm always defined by place. And each place is represented by my purpose for being there at that point in my life, its usually remembered by a struggle, and a period of growth in my life. And each place represents a different set of very important relationships. But it always begins with the new place.

What are the highlights of your faith journey?

Discovering a more personal side to my faith.
Discovering or being able to name God's voice in my everyday life - the Holy Spirit.
A period of quesitoning and doubt, trying to live with out my faith - discovering the meaninglessness of not having God.
A period of pain and of hopelessness - dealing with a death in the family and once agian realizing the absolute meaninglessness of life without God and or the first time realizing what hope and heaven really mean.

Give me a sense of my passion of youth and children's ministry

Big influences: my teachers, being in a small school having expierienced tight community, feeling responsible myself for the jr. high kids by the time I was a junior/senior in highschool.

I never felt "called to youth and children's ministry" but I have always felt called to be a mentor, friend, and spiritual influencer to younger people than I.
This and I love art - so I became an art teacher.

And all through university and through my first three years of teaching I was involved in youth ministry in my church. However, God put this position right in my path in a way I couldn't ignore so it appears that God now wants me to act out this calling I've always had to work with young people in a different dimension outside the classroom. I'm very excited about this new opportunity and it's going to be a new thing to be allowed to now be right out blatent about my faith and be able share it openly with young poeple .
