Why Blog? An essay by Kendra Fehr
Ok, so I'm trying this Blog thing.
So let me get this straight. It's like publishing a journal, so it's private things and then you make them public so everyone can read them. So you don't want them too private.
And you don't want to be too truthful because then the people who are driving you nuts that day may read about it.
But you don't want to be too shallow or surface because who wants to read that? "Today I made toast for breakfast and then I went to Extra Foods and bought groceries and then I ran errands for an hour...."
Hmmm.... Riveting.
And then there is just the narcissistic bent of it all - "My life is so interesting and fabulous I'm going to publish it on the World Wide Web so that everyone can read about it because everyone must be totally consumed with what happens to me on an everyday or weekly basis!!!!!"
Yet.... cool people that I know do it. Yes, people I admire, respect, look up to - They Blog. And people I admire, respect, and look up to also spend significant time during their weeks reading other people's blogs.
Is it just another level of unreality that we children of technology exist at. We find our virtual mates on dating sites, spend time with virtual friends in chat rooms, and share our deep personal issues to the Blog counsellor, and then when we're feeling really social - we create virtual social lives and communities on SIMS.
So now - I too - will feel more intimate and connected to the world by Blogging.
So for those of you who are also not interested or think I'm narcissist that's fine I accept your criticism.
